An organized note-taking system helps you keep track of everything without putting any burden on the memory. Creating a template has similar benefits and allows you to focus on the content. OneNote has many built-in features—preset layouts, styles, and formatting tools to help you create templates.
While there are many OneNote templates in different categories, they do not cover every need. But you can get ready-made templates from the web. Let’s explore some of the best sites to download OneNote templates for your use in different projects.
Installing Templates in OneNote
You will need a different installation procedure depending on which OneNote app you use. If you use a Mac, you will use the instructions described for it.
OneNote 2016 and Later
Many template sites provide you with a zip file. It contains the template file and optional documentation. Double-click the file to open it with OneNote 2016.
You’ll see a message in the yellow bar, “To get the most out of OneNote, move this notebook to OneDrive. Click here to move.”
If it’s a simple template, go to Insert > Choose the Page Templates command > Click Save current page as a template. Next time, your chosen template will be available through the My Templates pane and is one click away.

OneNote App for Windows 10
If you use OneNote for Windows 10, you cannot directly install templates. Instead, go to OneNote Notebook Importer from any browser. Click Import and navigate to the folder that contains your template files.
Select the folder, then click Open to import it. For templates ending with the .ONE extension, just double-click it to import the templates in OneNote.
