Tracee Ellis Ross Lets Loose in a Grassy Tinsel Sweater and Shaggy Yellow Shorts

October 2024 · 2 minute read

No one plays dress-up quite like Tracee Ellis Ross. The Black-ish star has earned a reputation as one of the best-dressed celebrities in Hollywood today—and rightfully so. With her penchant for the fun and unexpected, Ross is unafraid to reinvent and subvert trends whether she’s walking down a red carpet or simply walking down the street.

If you need proof, just look to her latest outfit of the day, as shared on Instagram early Wednesday. Working with her longtime stylist Karla Welch, Ross modeled a look pulled straight from Dries Van Noten’s Fall/Winter 2024 collection that emphasized texture, color, and—most of all—fun.

Your eyes might be immediately drawn to Ross’s top: a slouchy sweater that, upon closer inspection, is entirely covered in a grassy green material that looks like metallic turf or Christmas tinsel (think The Grinch meets disco). Even more unique is the styling of the sweater, which is layered over a pale lavender button-down blouse worn backward. The party continues with the bottom half of her look, which includes shaggy shorts covered in creamy yellow fur, plus a pair of chocolate-brown square-toe heels.

Ross previously reflected on her carefree approach to life and style in an interview for Harper’s Bazaar’s November 2021 cover story. “I didn’t see enough examples of different versions of how a woman can find happiness and joy and power and sensuality, sexuality, all of that, without it being through the lens of how I’m seen by a man,” she said. ‘People are like, ‘You’re the poster child for being single.’ And I was like, ‘Great.’ But what I would prefer is that I’m the poster child for living my life on my terms. And that there’s a version of that for everyone.”
